Subject:Three Wheels Good!

I thought you might like to know how I solved my transport problem. I recently had a shunt inserted and my driving licence has been revoked for 6 months. I can't go on my bike any more because my balance is poor and I felt rather stranded and cut off. However, I had the bright idea of getting an adult trike.

This has been a good move! I can get out and about again, and get some exercise at the same time. I have a large basket on the back of my trike so I can go shopping. I would recommend a trike to anyone in a similar position. EW

Subject:Recovery

Hi everyone,
Had my craniotomy on August 18th, and after 5 days in hospital have been recuperating at home. All went very well and appear to have removed the tumour, but will still require GK RT later, but awaiting biopsy confirmation.
I was quite scared at having to have a craniotomy, but the consultant was quite right that the surgery wasn't painful, just headaches afterwards and to be honest with the way he operated and as I have long hair, nobody would know I've been through major surgery.
The main thing effecting me now is the tiredness, but I know that will improve with time, and I'm finally listening to my body and not overdoing anything (with the help and support of my wonderful husband)
With best wishes to all
xx

Subject:My Meningioma

I was diagnosed with a meningioma in 2004 after a seizure. I had just returned from work having driven 15 miles up the motorway. Then I sat down to have a coffee and the next thing I remember was waking up in hospital where I spent the night. AS they could fit me in for scan I came home to wait six weeks. Then I had to wait for a MRI which confirmed my meningioma. Fortunately, my doctor was brilliant, so was my manager who helped by working some of my shifts so my husband could drive me (there are no direct buses from where I live).

I was referred to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, where my consultant was also very good. We decided against surgery at this point, but I was to have regular MRI scans. Seventeen months later I had another seizure, this time I was ironing and I burnt my hand quite badly. Again, I lost my licence which made it difficult to get to work. Also, my husband shifts were changing and often I had to go in early or wait to get picked up in the evening. Fortunately, everything seemed to settle down and I got my licence back.

In Sept 2009, 3 weeks after my normal MRI, my consultant asked to see me so I guessed something was up. He told me the tumour had grown slightly and he offered surgery. Luckily, there was no urgency so I had time to think about it, but I must admit once I was told that it had grown it was constantly in my mind. In June this year I saw my GP who referred me back to my consultant in July. Last week, on August 11th, I had surgery to remove the meningioma. The surgeon is 99% sure he's removed it all. I am now recuperating at home waiting for the biopsy result. I do get very tired, but it's only a week since the op, so it's early days.

Thanks to those who replied, I still await the phone call from the consultant, who said he would call me after he had spoken to the radiologists. If I hear nothing by this Wednesday then I will start the phone calls I think a week is enough time to get in touch with me.

Thanks for the info on the RT, I was told RT 1st then surgery and maybe some more RT, but I will deal with it as it comes, I can do little else. The increase in the Keppra knocked me over at the weekend, but I feel a little more human today when I managed a visit to my allotment and came back with a big bag of runner beans.

All the best to everyone
Kindest regards
Joanna
